In our day-to-day life, we face various situations some easy and some difficult to deal with which causes stress. It is a body’s response of fight–or–flight to cope with emotional and physical demands bought by stressful situations where there is inadequacy or failure to respond adequately to intellectual, emotional, or physical demands whether actual or imagined. 74% of the Indians suffer from stress.

The causes of stress might be intrinsic factors (Hormones, illness, underlying medical conditions) or extrinsic factors (emotional and social demands and situations) or both vary from one individual to another. The stress ranges from mild, moderate to severe depending on the individuals coping abilities. Acute stress could be a result of sudden unexpected demands while episodic stress is the result of recurring stressful events or episodes over a time period, chronic stress is prolonged high-levels of stress inhabited and extended over a longer time.

 

There a positive sides and benefits of ‘normal stress’ or ‘good stress’ or ‘beneficial stress’ which motivates to accomplish or reach the goal faster which is called Eustress. If this stress increases it impacts negatively causing absurd harmful outcomes which are called distress. A little stress helps us to get prepared and face the challenges effectively prior to approaching them it motivates us to work harder, focuses better, and perform best of our ability.

But stress should always be temporary, once after passing the stressful event the stressful feeling should reduce such as racing heart rate, discomfort, muscle tension, etc. and the body should return to a normal state without any lasting negative effects. If this doesn’t happen and the stress continues to prolong it can harmfully affect physical and mental health.

It is impossible to avoid or eradicating stress from our lives but we can definitely learn better ways to cope with, and manage our stress without getting affected physically and mentally with a little support and proper guidance.

When an individual senses some danger, the hypothalamus in the brain reacts and sends signals to adrenal glands to release some chemical components through the neural pathways.
